Waterdrop X12 Review UK – Tested Under a Real Sink Setup

If you’re looking for a high-end reverse osmosis system in the UK, the Waterdrop X12 is one of the most advanced options currently available.

But there’s one major thing you need to know before buying…

👉 It’s larger than most under-sink systems.

This Waterdrop X12 review UK involves testing in a real UK kitchen setup — and while the performance and build quality are excellent, it won’t fit every home.

💧 Concerned About PFAS in UK Tap Water?

If you’re specifically looking to remove PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”) from drinking water, reverse osmosis systems like the Waterdrop X12 are one of the most effective solutions available.

I’ve put together a full guide here:
👉 PFAS Water Filter UK – Best Systems Compared

This breaks down:

  • What PFAS actually are
  • Whether they’re present in UK water
  • The best filters to remove them effectively

🔍 Quick Answer (Should You Buy It?)

The Waterdrop X12 is one of the best reverse osmosis systems I’ve tested, with:

  • Premium build quality
  • Much faster flow rate than older models
  • Heavy-duty, high-end tap
  • Advanced multi-stage filtration

👉 If you have the space, this is the system I would choose without hesitation.

However:

👉 In my case, it didn’t fit under a standard UK sink due to pipework from a double bowl setup.

📦 What’s Included

Waterdrop X12 Review UK

waterdrop-x12-tap-accessories

Inside the box you get:

  • Main X12 filtration unit
  • Premium metal faucet
  • Pipes and connectors
  • Power supply
  • Installation kit

The unboxing experience feels premium and well thought out, with everything clearly organised.

🧱 Build Quality & First Impressions

waterdrop-x12-filters-front-view

Compared to smaller models like the G2:

  • The unit is more solid and substantial
  • Filters are integrated cleanly into the design
  • Everything feels engineered rather than assembled

Straight away, the X12 feels like a step above typical under-sink systems. The front has a quality magnetic cover to give the sleek appearance.

👉 The tap especially stands out — much heavier and more premium than standard RO taps.

🚰 Tap & Accessories (Premium Upgrade)

waterdrop-x12-tap-accessories

The included faucet is noticeably better than most systems:

  • Solid metal construction
  • Clean modern design
  • Smooth operation

👉 This alone makes the system feel more “high-end” compared to cheaper RO setups.

📏 Waterdrop X12 Size & Dimensions (Important)

From testing:

  • It’s much larger than typical under-sink units
  • Width is the main issue in UK cupboards with plumbing
  • Height can also be tight depending on shelving

👉 This is NOT a compact system.

Will Waterdrop X12 Fit Under a UK Sink?

waterdrop-x12-height-measurement
waterdrop-x12-width-measurement
waterdrop-x12-depth-measurement

In my setup:

  • Double bowl sink
  • Standard UK cupboard
  • Extra pipework due to double bowl sink

👉 Result:

Real test: Waterdrop X12 does not fit under my UK sink due to pipework

❌ It didn’t fit. The pipework blocked the depth needed, and there wasn’t enough clean space to install it comfortably. However due to top inlet pipes it is more likely to work in single sink bowl kitchens.

❌ It may NOT fit if you have:

  • Double bowl sink (like mine)
  • Lots of pipework
  • Boiler or waste pipes underneath

✅ It WILL likely fit if you have:

  • Single bowl sink
  • Minimal pipe clutter
  • More open cabinet space

Installation & Setup

Installation will take less than an hour with a standard UK plumbing kit. The colour-coded tubing will make it straightforward. It doesn’t require a separate booster pump because the X12’s internal pump keeps a steady pressure even with our lower mains flow.
If you’ve installed a regular under-sink filter before, this will feel familiar — just with an extra drain line for the waste water.

Faucet hole size

This is another very practical detail.

For my quartz worktop, I needed a 25mm diamond hole saw for the RO faucet hole to install the G5P700A faucet.

That’s slightly larger than the 22mm many people associate with standard tap-style installations.

If you’re fitting this into quartz, composite or stone, double-check the required faucet hole size before installation. I used one like this.

⚡ Performance & Specs (Why It’s So Good)

Even though I couldn’t install it fully, the specs are clearly a big upgrade over older models:

  • Much faster flow rate (near instant water)
  • Advanced multi-stage filtration
  • Designed to remove contaminants like chlorine, heavy metals, PFAS
  • Tankless design (no stagnant water)

👉 Compared to my current system, it’s a noticeable step up in capability.

Filtration Performance

Do Waterdrop Reverse Osmosis Systems Reduce PFAS (“Forever Chemicals”)?

With the UK Government publishing its PFAS Plan in 2026, more homeowners are asking whether home water filters can help reduce PFAS, sometimes called “forever chemicals.”

Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are among the most effective methods for removing contaminants from tap water. According to Waterdrop’s specifications, systems use a 0.0001 micron RO membrane, which is tested for reducing PFOA and PFOS, two of the most common PFAS compounds.

Some Waterdrop RO models also reference third-party testing and certifications such as NSF/ANSI 58 (RO systems) and NSF/ANSI 372 (lead-free materials). Certification can vary by model, so always check the exact Waterdrop product page for performance details.

For UK households, it’s important to understand that:

  • Drinking water in England and Wales remains high quality
  • The government is reviewing PFAS regulations
  • RO systems provide an additional point-of-use barrier, rather than a solution to any confirmed nationwide contamination

For a deeper dive, see our full PFAS in UK drinking water guide, which explains risks, government plans, and which filtration systems are tested for PFAS reduction.ns risks, government plans, and which filtration systems are tested for PFAS reduction.

🔥 What About the G5P700A?

The G5P700A has been a popular option — but:

👉 It’s currently hard to find in stock in the UK. Check out my G5P700A review.

The X12 is effectively:

✔ Faster
✔ More advanced
✔ Better built

👉 So it’s now the main premium option to consider

👍 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Premium build quality
  • Excellent tap design
  • Very fast water flow
  • Advanced filtration
  • Tankless system

❌ Cons

  • Larger size

👉 One of the best reverse osmosis systems available in the UK right now

But…

👉 It’s only the right choice if you have the space

💡 My honest take:

  • If it fit under my sink → I would choose this without hesitation
  • Because it didn’t → I’d go for the G3P600

💧 Choosing the Right Water Filter for Your Home

If you’re still deciding which system is best, it’s worth understanding how reverse osmosis compares to other options available in the UK.

👉 See my full guide here: Best Reverse Osmosis System UK
👉 Or for full-home protection: Best Whole House Water Filter UK

In short:

  • Reverse osmosis systems (like the X12) are best for ultra-clean drinking water, removing contaminants such as chlorine, heavy metals and PFAS
  • Whole house filters protect your entire home, reducing limescale and improving water quality for showers, appliances and pipes

👉 In many cases, the best setup is a combination of both — a whole house system for general protection, paired with reverse osmosis for drinking water.
